Which test is best for you?

CAMBRIDGE

Cambridge English exams cover all skills. From the First Certificate (FCE) to the Advanced Certificate (CAE), to the Proficiency (CPE), which do help to improve one’s English mastery. All skills will be developed step by step: speaking, writing, reading/ use of English, and listening.

What’s the takeaway? These exams are a great help to build up all round confidence and perfect grammar to use English in real life.

TOEFL

The TOEFL (“Test of English as a Foreign Language”) is a standardized test that measures a test taker’s mastery of the English language. TOEFL scores are primarily used by universities as part of the admissions process. Typically, those who take the TOEFL want to attend university or graduate school abroad.

What’s the takeaway? The TOEFL focuses on how English is used in an academic setting, quite literally a classroom, which is why schools and universities use TOEFL scores for admissions purposes. It tests the ability to use formal, academic language and high-level vocabulary while simultaneously participating, and absorbing the given class material.

IELTS

IELTS is one the world’s leading English test for study, work and migration. Respected and accepted world-wide, IELTS helps you boost your English proficiency level and prepares you for success in the real world. (www.ieltsessentials.com)

There are two versions of the IELTS:

.IELTS Academic is designed for people planning to study in higher education or those seeking professional registration. It assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training in an environment where English is the language used.

.IELTS General Training measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. It is appropriate for those planning to study in high school or a vocational training program.

People migrating to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK must take the IELTS General Training test.

What’s the takeaway? On the IELTS, you’ll have to come up with your own answers for many questions. This is not a multiple choice test. With the IELTS, you’ll actually be having a conversation with a real human through an Oral Interview. Your scores may be used to meet academic, professional and migration requisites.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is an important step in the graduate school or business school application process. The GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) globally.

Graduate school and business school admissions committees look at your GRE score, along with your academic record and supporting materials, to assess your readiness for the rigors of graduate academic study.

What’s the takeaway? A high score on the GRE will have a direct, positive impact on your graduate or business school application.

GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test, (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA program. It requires knowledge of certain specific grammar and knowledge of certain specific algebra, geometry, and arithmetic.

What’s the takeaway? The GMAT assesses analytical writing and problem-solving abilities, while also addressing data sufficiency, logic, and critical reasoning skills that it believes to be vital to real-world business and management success.
